Engineering Fields
Engineering is the application of science and mathematics by which the properties of matter and the sources of energy in nature are made useful to people. The engineering field that would use parachutes and how to design them and use them is mainly military engineers and rockets. They need to know which material will catch the air enough to break the fall and what shape will work best to keep the cargo safe. For example, parachutes were first made of silk, but scientists later discovered that woven nylon fabric is less likely to rip, catches more air and is stronger. If an engineer is working on how to take a rocket safely back to Earth, they need to know how much the rocket weighs and make a parachute to safely bring it back down to Earth.
